Kiwi Kale Banana Juice

My juices are not exactly juice. You are probably wondering what I mean by that. Well folks, I have a juicer, but I don’t really use it. I prefer to use a blender when making “juices” because in my opinion, all the fiber and more of the vitamins and minerals are in the skins of fruits and vegetables, especially if you use organic products. The “juice” is also great, but has a lot of water, and it would make me sick to my stomach using the juice and looking in the waste bin after seeing all the fibers going into the trash. Juicers can argue differently, but 9 times out of 10 I am more satisfied from the blends I make in my Vitamix (which you can also purchase through me if you are interested!!)

The juice I made today is a bit different because I played around and used kiwi fruit in it. What is so great about those fuzzy green egg shaped fruits? Well, a lot actually. One cup of kiwi can provide you with 5 grams of dietary fiber, getting you that much closer to the 25-30 grams of fiber you need daily. Also, in one cup of kiwi you can find 270 percent of your daily vitamin C intake, as well as 89 percent of your vitamin K intake, which helps with blood clotting and cell growth, and some vitamin D and E. Kiwi is also low calorie and high in potassium.

I also used maca powder, which tends to add a little spice to juice, but is also anti-inflammatory and great for energy and performance (I am headed to the gym after I drink this!). I also added a tablespoon of my friend Sophie’s Green Dream raw superfood protein powder, which has chlorella and spirulina and a few other great ingredients that taste great in this blend. Not pictured in the photograph is the banana I used (it just wouldn’t fit!), the celery (didn’t really fit either!) and the tablespoon of flax oil I used, which, as I have mentioned before, is great to add to juices/smoothie blends because it helps with the absorption of some minerals found in the produce used.
