Seasonal Smoothie Bowl
Fall is right around the corner, which means, yes pumpkin spice lattes, longer nights and costume shopping for Halloween, among other things. It is also time for fall produce! Some of my favorites are in season during this time, specifically figs and pineapples (and persimmons, I am waiting for you!), at least thru September. Before it starts to cool down (not really sure when that will be in Los Angeles) I thought it would be fun to create a smoothie bowl using a bunch of the seasonal fruits for September.

Here we have a papaya, cut in half.. It is best to remove the seeds before going any further. The seeds are edible, but they are rather bitter…trust me on this one.
Do you like papaya? It is one of those fruits I often forget about, mostly because I have a hard time finding it. Here in Los Angeles, there are WAY too many different produce options to worry about the ones you can’t find. However, when I was thinking about what I wanted to make today and looking at the seasonal produce, it caught my eye.
My favorite thing about papaya is actually the fact that it aids in digestion with the enzyme papain. It can be used as a meat tenderizer, but is also great eaten after large meals. It can aid in constipation and symptoms from IBS as well.
The smoothie bowl base
There is even some avocado in here, it adds healthy fats, fiber and makes this smoothie bowl more satisfying.
Some fresh papaya, coconut milk and frozen banana.
Added some turmeric for color and anti-inflammatory properties, and added camu powder for extra vitamin C. Camu is also known as an immunity booster.
Smoothie is ready for blending!
Looks pretty nice, if I don’t say so myself.
This came out pretty big, so you can definitely split it into two bowls and share it with a friend.
Seasonal Smoothie Bowl
- 2 cups of ripe fresh papaya
- 1/2 cup of frozen pineapple
- 1/2 of a small frozen banana
- 1/2 of an avocado
- 2 scoops collagen peptides
- 1/2 cup of light coconut milk
- 1/4 cup of ice
- Juice of one lime
- 1/2 tbsp Navitas Naturals camu powder (optional)
- 1/2 tbsp Navitas Naturals turmeric powder (optional)
- Pinch or two of black pepper (to increase curcumin bioavailability in the turmeric)
- Chopped fresh papaya for topping
- Chopped fresh figs for topping
- Coconut chips for topping
- Add all of the smoothie ingredients to a high powered blender and mix until completely smooth.
- Pour the smoothie into a bowl (or bowls). Add toppings, or whatever you desire and enjoy!
