Start Your St. Patty’s Day Right…A Green Juice That is ALLLLL Green! You Definitely Won’t Get Pinched After You Drink This!

Ah, yes, St. Patty’s Day. Basically, another excuse for society to drink.

I have definitely enjoyed St. Patty’s Day debaucheries in my past, but this year I will be partaking in a different kind of green drink.

We have all seen a million and one green juice recipes, but I would like to think this one is different, because today, I am ONLY using GREEN ingredients. Except for flax oil, which is basically clear, so I won’t count it. Oh yeah, I will tell you why I am adding that to my juice in a bit.

ImageI have the luxury of owning both a juicer and a blender, both extremely high quality. Although the juicer is awesome, I don’t use it as much as the blender. One reason is that is takes longer to clean. The other reason is that I like eating all parts of my fruits and veggies. The fiber is in the skin, not the juice, and it is also more filling. Again, it is not that the juicer is not great, but in this juice situation, I made my juice in my Vitamix blender, so it is a little more like a smoothie, as far as the texture goes.

I use organic romaine lettuce, celery and some water mostly for water content. Then I added some kale and spinach for darker greens. I added parsley for it’s detoxifying properties and mint for digestion. Both of these herbs are also highly anti-inflammatory. Then I added a green apple for a little sweetness and a tablespoon of flax oil. This is my first time using flax oil in a juice. I did this because when I was at the Natural Products Expo the other week, there was a woman who had created a juice line using flax oil in all of her juices. I had forgotten that in nutrition studies we learn that healthy fats, such as omega-3’s, help aid in the absorption in vitamins and minerals from produce. Flax oil is probably the best to use because in a juice such as this one, it is tasteless.

St. Patty’s Day Green Juice

1 cup of water

1 head of organic romaine lettuce

1 cup of spinach

1 cup of kale

2-3 stalks of celery, chopped

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped

1 granny smith green apple, chopped

1 tbsp. flax oil

I PREFER YOU USE ORGANIC PRODUCE, but I will never know what you use, so it’s up to you.

Put all of these ingredients in a high powered blender, Vitamix or juicer if you want to juice it (no guarantees on the quantity this will produce in the juicer) and blend…now you have a green drink that even the leprechauns will be jealous of!!
