Stay Calm, Chill and Centered with CBD Teas

These days, you would have to be living under a rock to not know there is a lot of tension and despair in the world. Many of us may not have access to the things we normally lean on for stress release, like a hard core gym session or a night out with friends, so where do we turn?

Some people are finding release in long walks or runs, organizing items around our homes or finishing projects that have long lingered. However, some of us are also prone to overindulging in food and drink to ease our stress.

While there is nothing wrong with having more treats now than you might have a few months ago, it’s also not a bad idea to create a balance, and perhaps a bit more calm.

How about switching out that cocktail or glass of wine for one evening with a healing cup of healthy herbs, botanicals and CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, the chemical compound from the cannabis sativa plant. It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm. In more recent years, more food and drink companies have started to carry products with CBD in it.

Enter The Hemp Division. This is the sister company of the well-known tea company Harney and Sons. The creators took their lengthy experience in tea and created fusion products with CBD. Their CBD line has everything from hot and cold teas to CBD tinctures, lotions and bath bombs. I was lucky enough to be gifted a set of their hot teas as well as their sparkling elixirs. The timing could not have been better for this product to arrive at my doorstep!

Before I get into my review on these teas, I figured it might be ideal to share a partial list of the ways CBD can be beneficial.

ANXIETY

Sometimes just the ritual of drinking tea is calming for many people. Combining CBD targets receptors in the endocannabinoid system throughout our nervous systems, so the result is a soothing remedy for racing thoughts and anxiety without many of the side effects of prescription medications. You may want to check with a doctor to see what the right dosage is for you.

INSOMNIA

By supporting anxiety and pain, CBD can help you relax and get better rest. Calming herbal infusions with Mint or Chamomile are natural aids.

GUT HEALTH

The combination of CBD with stomach-soothing herbs like peppermint or ginger can provide relief for those having bad food or drug reactions, or those with just the occasional upset stomach.

I was gifted a three pack of hot teas from The Hemp Division. The packaging is beautiful. The cannisters have a vintage style feel to them. Each tin has a different name and different amount of CBD.

Center

This is a Cinnamon Spice flavor. I knew this one would be my favorite, because I have had a similar flavor tea in another brand and absolutely loved it. This flavor is sweet with a tinge of spice and has 8 mg CBD,  the lowest dosage of the three.

Calm

This is a Turmeric Ginger flavor. Knowing both ginger and turmeric are anti-inflammatory, I was excited to try this flavor. I liked it, but this one was my least favorite. Turmeric has a strong bitter flavor to me, but the ginger helps to balance it out. This flavor has 9 mg CBD.

Chill

This one is Chamomile Mint flavored. It is very refreshing and soothing, which is typical of mint flavored products. This flavor has 16 mg CBD, the most of the three.

Since I enjoy creating recipes, I thought it would be fun to create a different type of tea sandwich to go along with my tea selections.

What you see above is purple and orange open face sweet potato toasts. The purple one has mashed avocado, sea salt and a raspberry on top. The orange one has almond butter and blueberries on top. These make a fun and healthy alternative to your typical tea sandwich, plus they are so colorful!

I think we can all use a little more color in our lives right now, don’t you?

Ingredients
  • 1 purple sweet potato
  • 1 orange sweet potato
  • 1 avocado pitted and mashed
  • 2 tbsp. almond butter (crunchy or creamy is fine)
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup raspberries
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • Dash of Kosher salt
Instructions
  1. Slice your sweet potatoes into 2-3 inch squares and place them on a toaster tray.

  2. Put your olive oil in a small ramekin so you can baste the front and backside of each potato toast.

  3. Put them into your toaster on the tray for approximately 15 minutes on TOAST.

  4. While that happens, mash your avocado into a ramekin (it can be the same one) and add a dash or two of salt, stir.

  5. Put the almond butter into a second ramekin or small bowl. If it doesn’t seem “drizzly” enough, add a little water.

  6. When the toasts are done, let them cool about 5 minutes.

Then dollop the avocado on to the purple toasts and drizzle the almond butter onto the orange toasts. You can do the opposite too if you chose!

  7. Add the fruits and serve to your calm and happy guests, or just yourself if that’s the case!!
